The Khmer language employs the use of registers, meaning the speaker has to always be conscious of the social status of the one they are speaking to. As such, this backs up the previous point made about the social hierarchy of the Khmers.
There are Khmer texts regarding the founder of the Khmer empire, king Jayavarman II, was legitimised by a Brahmin priest. This shows the Khmer empire accepted the belief that in order to be king, one had to be legitimised by a Brahmin priest.
