A BRIEF INTRODUCTION
"Indianisation" is referred to by historians as the historical spread of Indian cultures, religions and beliefs beyond India proper into other countries and regions, in this case Southeast Asia.
Southeast Asia came under Indian influence starting from around 200BC, through trade practices from eastern India. Since then, it has given birth to many empires and civilisations. The civilisation of India influenced the languages, scripts, calendars, and artistic aspects of these peoples and nations. For this exhibit, we will be focusing on the Khmer Empire of the pre-modern Southeast Asia, as well as how it has been shaped by the influences of the Indian culture, customs, philosophy and belief system, and in turn, how that has shaped the Southeast Asia of today.
