MODERN DAY SOUTHEAST ASIA
As can be seen in the previous exhibit, Indianisation had quite a large role in shaping the Khmer empire. The same can be said for most other pre-modern Southeast Asian societies.
Now, several centuries later, these societies' cultures are still very important to today's societies, and play a large role in the culture of today, as many traditions, beliefs and practices have been carried down to the societies of today. As such, many Indian ideas are still present in our society today, be it our food, our religions, our government systems and even our way of life.
An example would be the Khmer empire and Cambodia. In the Cambodia of today, the main language of the country is still the Khmer language, and shadow puppetry is still an incredibly important part of the country's culture. Even today, Angkor Wat is a highly important national symbol, and is visited by many Cambodians every day.
Thus, it can be said that Indianisation in the past has not only shaped the pre-modern societies of Southeast Asia, but it has also shaped the Southeast Asia of today.
